Job Description

Job Title: Compliance Specialist V

Location: Redmond, WA (Up to 25% domestic travel)

Duration: 12-month contract

Compensation: $70–$85/hour (W2, no benefits)

Position Overview:

  • An experienced Certified Industrial Hygienist is needed to lead and manage core exposure assessments, particularly focusing on air and noise, across laboratory and R&D environments.
  • The successful candidate will support site teams by developing, implementing, and reviewing industrial hygiene (IH) sampling strategies across complex chemical and technical settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with site Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) teams to understand chemical processes and develop tailored exposure assessments.
  • Review and provide feedback on third-party sampling plans and interpret results; communicate findings to internal teams.
  • Maintain industrial hygiene sampling databases and all supporting documentation.
  • Identify and streamline Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) for efficient monitoring strategies.
  • Lead training and assessment programs related to Nanotechnology and IH Business Unit Plans.
  • Recommend and support implementation of engineering and administrative controls based on sampling data.

Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Write and manage Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for third-party sampling vendors.
  • Oversee execution of sampling events, interpret data, communicate results to affected staff, and input findings into the IH database.
  • Provide global support for the written Industrial Hygiene program as needed.
  • Collaborate with technical teams and researchers in an innovative R&D setting focused on future technologies.

Team Environment:

  • Join a 31-person Technical Program Team.
  • The role fills a critical need to manage the industrial hygiene sampling process across the organization.
  • Performance is evaluated based on project completion, data accuracy, and effective employee communication.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in industrial hygiene, especially in complex or high-tech environments
  • In-depth knowledge of:
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1000
  • ACGIH Threshold Limit Values (TLVs)
  • NIOSH Analytical Methods
  • Proven track record in evaluating occupational exposures in multi-chemical environments
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex sampling data to technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting R&D environments or high-tech labs
  • Familiarity with nanotechnology exposure assessments
  • Strong written communication skills related to program development and documentation
  • Ability to assess chemical reactions and byproducts in dynamic environments

Interview Process:

  • One interview with the program manager and a colleague (30 minutes)
  • Interview format: Technical discussion with a focus on critical thinking and chemical evaluation methodologies

Sample Screening Questions:

  • Describe your experience evaluating over 100 chemicals. How do you proceed when no Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) exists?
  • Have you worked with nanotechnology-related assessments? If so, describe your involvement.
  • What is your experience in evaluating chemical reactions and identifying byproducts?
